Dog friendly holiday accommodation

Dogs are now welcome in our YHA Exclusive Hire properties. Take one of our properties for yourself and take your four-legged friend with you! Dogs are welcome to join you at any Exclusive Hire property, all of which are perfectly positioned for wonderful walkies in the countryside. Book one of these and look forward to great adventures with your canine companion.

You can take up to four dogs per YHA Exclusive Hire booking, at a cost of £30 per dog for the duration of the stay. For more information see our terms and conditions.

Are dogs welcome at YHA sites?
Dogs are welcome at a number of our locations when these hostels are used for Exclusive Hire, excluding YHA Alston, YHA Alnwick, YHA Bracken Tor, YHA Caldbeck, YHA Castleton Mews, YHA Cheddar, YHA Elmscott, YHA Exford, YHA Gower, YHA Hawse End, YHA Ingleton, YHA Isle of Wight, YHA Kettlewell, YHA Littlehampton, YHA Llangattock, YHA Malham (main building), YHA Okehampton, YHA Osmotherley, YHA Portreath, YHA Rhosilli, YHA Slimbridge, YHA Skiddaw House & YHA Wooler.. YHA Camping & Cabins sites are also dog -friendly but the terms and conditions are different so if you’d like information on other ways to stay, please visit our main website.

Please note: Registered assistance dogs are permitted at any YHA property, free of charge. Please notify us at the point of booking if you wish to bring a registered assistance dog with you.

Is there a charge for dogs to stay?
Yes – it costs £30 per dog for the duration of the YHA Exclusive Hire booking. Up to four dogs are permitted per booking. To book, enter the number of dogs when prompted at the online checkout. If you’re making a telephone booking, please inform us at the time of booking.

Can guests book and pay for dogs online?
Yes, simply select the number of dogs when prompted and £30 per dog will be added to the total cost of your booking.

Is there a limit to the number of dogs that can stay?
Yes – four per booking.

What should I do if I already have a booking at one of the dog-friendly locations and didn’t know I could bring my dog along?
Give our Contact Centre a call on 01629 592 700 and we’ll update your booking and take a payment of £30 per dog for the duration of your stay.

Are dogs free to go everywhere?
Dogs are permitted in hostel bedrooms but are not allowed on beds or furniture or in kitchen areas. We also ask that, if they are assigned a specific dog-friendly bedroom, owners stick to this room for the duration of their stay. Dogs must not be left unattended in the hostel, in vehicles or in the hostel grounds.

What happens if my dog damages the property?
Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. Any damage caused by a dog must be paid for by its owner.

What facilities are there for dogs?
Bins are provided and owners are asked to clean up after their dogs. We also provide a hose attachment outside the hostel, for showering mucky pups before they re-enter the property. Owners will need to bring their own equipment such as poop bags, bowls, food, dog beds, towels etc.

1. Dogs are permitted at YHA locations when these hostels are used for Exclusive Hire, excluding YHA Alston,YHA Alnwick, YHA Bracken Tor, YHA Caldbeck, YHA Castleton Mews, YHA Cheddar, YHA Elmscott, YHA Exford, YHA Gower, YHA Hawse End, YHA Ingleton, YHA Isle of Wight, YHA Kettlewell, YHA Littlehampton, YHA Llangattock, YHA Malham (main building), YHA Okehampton, YHA Osmotherley, YHA Portreath, YHA Rhosilli, YHA Slimbridge, YHA Skiddaw House & YHA Wooler.
2. Guests must inform YHA at the time of booking if they wish to bring a dog or dogs to our dog-friendly properties
3. A maximum of four dogs is allowed per Exclusive Hire booking
4. There is a supplementary charge of £30 per dog per booking, for the duration of the booking
5. No other domestic pets are permitted at our properties
6. Dogs cannot sleep on hostel beds or furniture
7. Dogs must not be left alone or unattended in the hostel, vehicles or hostel grounds
8. Any damage caused by a dog must be paid for by the owner
9. Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs at all times, using the bins provided
10. YHA does not accept liability for any loss, damage or illness to dogs
11. Dog owners are completely responsible for their dogs at all times
12. Dogs should be fully vaccinated, microchipped and have had veterinary health checks
13. Owners will need to bring their own equipment (bowls, bed, poop bags, food etc)
