What we have to offer

Located in the centre of the historic market town of Alnwick, this property is ideal for a visit to the historic Alnwick Castle, the medieval home of the Dukes of Northumberland and, more recently, the setting of the Harry Potter films where it had a starring role as Hogwarts School. Amaze the kids as you take them to where Harry, Ron and Hermione first donned their robes and took part in their lessons, YHA Alnwick is ideal for large family holidays.
Next to the castle is the beautiful Alnwick Gardens, recently created by the Duchess of Northumberland. During spring and summer, this is an outdoor treat not to be missed. Marvel at the water features, step into the poison garden and have your lunch in one of the world’s largest tree houses.
The lovely Hulne Park and Barter Books, probably the largest second hand bookshop in the country, are also not to be missed when visiting the area.
The building used to be the town’s Court House and was built in 1856 so is steeped in the history of the area. Although the accommodation itself is very modern with clean lines and bright décor throughout, it still retains some of its original features including the old exercise yard which once belonged to the now long gone Correction House.
The Youth Hostel, opened by the Queen in June 2011, comprises two older cottages which acted as the town’s police station from the 19th century. Now fitted out with en-suite rooms and a modern dining room extension the hostel provides 21st century comfort.
Just 15 minutes away by car are the endless sandy beaches of the Northumberland coast with breath-taking views of Dunstanburgh, Warkworth and Bamburgh Castles, as well as havens for wildlife like Holy Island and the Farne Isles.
The self-catering kitchen contains domestic size ovens, microwave, fridges (one with a freezer), kettles, toaster and a range of kitchen equipment, crockery and cutlery for 46 people. Tea towels are provided.
30 beds arranged in 1 x double, 2x2, 3x4, 1x4/5 (double with single above), 2x6 bedrooms. All rooms are en suite. All bed linen is provided. Ground floor rooms available by arrangement.
A long stay public car park is available to the rear of the Job Centre, next door to the hostel. There is currently no charge to use this car park. Coach parking at Greenwell Road. Please do not park in “Resident Permit”
