Whilst we are aware that the answers to all of your questions may not appear on our website hopefully some of the more frequently asked questions will be answered below. If your particular question is not here, please do not hesitate to contact the team who will be more than happy to help. Your input will also help us to help other customers as they may well have the same queries.

Will we have the property to ourselves?

Yes – the manager will meet you on arrival to show you around and hand over the keys. After that the property is all yours – you may come and go as you please! Please be aware that at some of our properties the hostel manager or staff may live on site, but rest assured they are always in a separate area and will not invade your privacy.

Do we have to clean the property?

You will be expected to leave the property as you found it, therefore there may be some tidying and cleaning to do when you leave. All cleaning materials are provided and all we ask is that you leave the property as you found it – but we don’t expect you to be mopping the floors or scrubbing the baths!

We have a large group of 80 people, are you able to accommodate us?

Many locations are suitable for larger groups and make great venues to get together. Just enter the number of guests on the homepage to search for properties that can accommodate your party.

How far in advance can I book?

You can book up to 18 months in advance and we open the dates up for bookings on the 1st of every month.

Do you have a catering service?

A catering is not available when using a hostel on an Exclusive Hire basis. The vast majority of our Exclusive Hire properties have self-catering facilities available for guests to use.

Is YHA Exclusive Hire available all year round?

Every property is different – most properties operate on the YHA Exclusive Hire scheme between October and Easter, however some are available outside of these periods. Please see each location’s webpage for their availability.

Are cots and high-chairs provided?

Some properties are able to provide these facilities but, as they are not provided as standard, you will need to check with the hostel first. We will be happy to contact them on your behalf or provide the managers number.

Can I make a booking without a deposit?

A: We require a 25% deposit to secure a booking which is part of our terms and conditions, however should you need to be invoiced or are a group who can only pay by cheque, we will hold the booking for up to one week. Should payment not be received within this time, then unfortunately the booking will be cancelled.

Why are the bed numbers different from the main YHA website?

A: When a property is being hired out for sole use as with the YHA Exclusive Hire scheme we need to make sure that all the facilities (kitchen, washrooms, etc.) provided are sufficient for your stay. This may mean that sometimes we will need to limit bed numbers in order to ensure a comfortable experience. It may also be for health and safety restrictions. If you have seen a property but discover that for sole use the bed numbers are not adequate for your group please contact the team and we will try to find a suitable alternative.

Can we bring our dog?

Dogs are permitted at most of our YHA Exclusive Hire locations excluding YHA Alston, YHA Alnwick, YHA Bracken Tor, YHA Caldbeck, YHA Castleton Mews, YHA Cheddar, YHA Elmscott, YHA Exford, YHA Gower, YHA Hawse End, YHA Ingleton, YHA Isle of Wight, YHA Kettlewell, YHA Littlehampton, YHA Llangattock, YHA Malham (main building), YHA Okehampton, YHA Osmotherley, YHA Portreath, YHA Rhosilli, YHA Slimbridge, YHA Skiddaw House & YHA Wooler. You must tell us at the time of booking if you wish to bring a dog to one of our dog friendly properties. If you use an assistance dog then we are more than happy to accommodate this free of charge, just let us know in advance. YHA Camping and Cabins sites are also dog friendly.

Is there a charge for dogs to stay?

Yes – it costs £30 per dog for the duration of the YHA Exclusive Hire booking. Up to four dogs are permitted per booking. To book, enter the number of dogs when prompted at the online checkout. If you’re making a telephone booking, please inform us at the time of booking.

What should I do if I already have a booking at one of the dog-friendly locations and didn’t know I could bring my dog along?

Give our Contact Centre a call on 01629 592 700 and we’ll update your booking and take a payment of £30 per dog for the duration of your stay.

Are dogs free to go everywhere?

Dogs are permitted in hostel bedrooms but are not allowed on beds or furniture or in kitchen areas. We also ask that, if they are assigned a specific dog-friendly bedroom, owners stick to this room for the duration of their stay. Dogs must not be left unattended in the hostel, in vehicles or in the hostel grounds.

What happens if my dog damages the property?

Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. Any damage caused by a dog must be paid for by its owner.

What facilities are there for dogs?

Bins are provided and owners are asked to clean up after their dogs. We also provide a hose attachment outside the hostel, for showering mucky pups before they re-enter the property. Owners will need to bring their own equipment such as poop bags, bowls, food, dog beds, towels, etc.
