Gothic Victorian villa built in 1875, this building was purchase by YHA and opened in 1962 as the new Canterbury Youth Hostel. It has remained open every day since up to 3rd November 2012 when it was closed for a full refurbishment; it re-opened in March 2013!
A large kitchen to the dining room in the basement, which contains three electric cookers with four rings on each (12 in total), microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster, crockery and cutlery. Tea towels are provided.

There is enough room for 72 people to share rooms of 1 x 2, 7 x 4 and 7 x 6 – all of which have been refurbished and includes seven en-suites. There are 13 showers and 14 toilets.
Also available for our YHA Exclusive Hire guests is The Shire – 3 wooden cabins in the grounds of YHA Canterbury. These timber camping cabins are fully insulated and have two double glazed leaded windows – four or five people can sleep comfortably in the bunks and use it as a living/seating area during the day – the walls of the cabin slope outwards for a more spacious feeling. The cabins have one double bed with a single over the top and an additional bunk and a kitchenette area with a fridge, microwave, sink, kettle and crockery. All bedding is provided so you don’t need to lug your sleeping bag around and there’s even an en-suite bathroom for your convenience.
Guests can park a two minute walk away down Rochester Avenue or St Lawrence which both offer free parking overnight and at weekends. Canterbury College also offers weekend parking at £2 per day and there is a park and ride located at the top of New Dover Road. We have a coach bay available at the hostel.
Follow signs for Dover, hostel is on the A2050 1 1/4 miles from city centre.
There is a dining room in the basement next to the self-catering kitchen and a lounge on the ground floor. There are TV’s in both, the dining room is not a square space and seats 36 people. Wif-Fi is available at this property which is free of charge for guests to use.
Seven of the bedrooms are en-suite and there are plenty of facilities on each floor. Please bring your own towels.
There is a large garden at the rear of the property and a small, secure cycle store. YHA Canterbury is centrally heated throughout.
YHA Canterbury welcomes dogs! Add a dog to your booking at check out and bring your four legged friend along with you.
