Adhering to government guidance
For the foreseeable future, YHA Cheddar Main Building will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only. If you are interested in staying before 25th March 2021 for a purpose which you believe is within current government regulations, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Bookings after 26th March 2021 can be made online as normal.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of the current government guidance on gatherings in self-catering accommodation. In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.

Cheddar Gorge is an adventure playground for all, and this modernised Victorian house is in the thick of the action. The property sits in the village below the dramatic gorge that has the highest limestone cliffs in England.

There is a large self-catering kitchen well equipped with four hobs, two ovens, two microwaves, two kettles, two toasters, and plenty of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The hostel boasts a large open plan lounge with soft seating for 15 people. There is a dining room equipped with 7 tables and 30 chairs, where guests can socialise with a delicious meal. Highchairs are also available.
A grassy lawn is behind the main hostel building with outdoor seating which guests can use, especially in the warmer months.

YHA Cheddar Main Building includes 37 beds:
Two four-bedded rooms. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
Three five-bedded rooms. Includes 1 double bed with single bunk over and 1 set of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
One six-bedded room. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
One five-bedded room with accessible en-suite. Includes 1 double bed with single bunk over and 1 set of bunk beds.
One three-bedded room with en-suite. Includes 1 double bed with sink bunk over.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 3 shower and 3 toilets throughout the hostel. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Cheddar is a great place for gentle cycling across the extensive Somerset levels. If you prefer more of a challenging climb, head to the rolling hills. The terrain varies between flat and steep, so take your choice before heading out to explore.
Take a ramble around Cheddar Gorge, and explore the highest limestone cliffs in England, with beautiful views to capture in your memory.
Visit the City of Wells in Somerset, England’s smallest city, with its historic centre, the grand cathedral, and the distinctive moated Bishop’s Palace.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
The Youth Hostel makes a great base for an exciting activity break and exciting activities for all abilities are provided by our partners Mendip Outdoor Pursuits. If high octane adventures are not your thing, you can take it easier with some wonderful local walks and cycle routes, or travel to the nearby cities of Bath and Bristol, or pay a visit the museum or crazy golf course, located in the area.
It is not just the stunning landscape that Cheddar is best known for. The traditional method of cheese making can still be seen at the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company. Make sure to pick up a sample at the gift shop- matured in Cheddar’s Gough’s Cave itself.
If you’re feeling a little peckish, head to the Lower Gorge and discover the variety of quaint cafes, restaurants and tearooms, suited to every taste and preference.
The hostel has its own private car part with parking 10 cars shared between both buildings. There is plenty of additional on street parking to supplement this.
From the A371, at the War Memorial turn left if coming from Axbridge or right from Wells into “The Hayes”. The hostel is on the left immediately after the school.
