YHA Dufton is a great base for outdoor activity breaks and exploring the wild moorland and green valleys which characterise the area. This large stone house in Cumbria is the perfect opportunity to stay in Europe’s first Geopark, an area of great geological interest. If you enjoy cycling, you can take on both the Pennine Way and Cumbria Cycle Way- it is a biker’s paradise.

Close by is Dufton Gill Woods, with family walks available to enjoy.
There is a self-catering kitchen for communal cooking well equipped with two cookers, four hobs, three fridges, one microwave and all the essential kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
There is a combined dining room and lounge which seats 24 people at tables and chairs and 10 people on comfy chairs around the open fire – all kindling, logs and coal are provided. The conservatory provides additional seating for 10 overlooking the large garden ideal for spotting local wildlife.

YHA Dufton includes 32 beds:
Two six-bedded rooms. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Four four-bedded rooms. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One two-bedded room. Includes 1 set of bunks. With shower and shared bathroom facilities.
One two-bedded room. Includes 1 set of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 7 showers and 7 toilets close to the bedrooms. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
You can approach Cross Fell, the highest point along the Pennine Way from the hostel. Do not miss the North Pennines very own ‘Grand Canyon’ with its remarkable rock formations.
Brougham Castle has a maze of passages and spiral stairways waiting to be explore. The extensive grounds also make it an ideal picnic spot for the family.
There’s great road cycling around Dufton with lots of quiet roads making it suitable for all cycling abilities.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
The village of Dufton is in a peacefully quiet area of in the Lake District, making it the perfect base for a rural retreat. Take a pleasant stroll next to the weaving streams through Dufton Ghyll, or for the more energetic, take on the Pennine Way for some great cycling opportunities suitable for all ages and abilities. You can also explore the variety of fellside villages of the Eden Valley, with independent gift shops, tea rooms and pubs dotted around the area. Make YHA Dufton your chosen holiday location today.
There is 8 to 10 street parking spaces, with free parking in the village.
From Scotch Corner and the East: Leave the A66 at Appleby, follow the signs for Dufton. From Penrith and the West: Leave the A66 before Appleby, take left turn signed Long Marton and Dufton.

At YHA Dufton we strive to cater for everybody. Unfortunately, none of our bedrooms or bathrooms are accessible to modern standards. We have:

- Grab rail at the front door
- One ground floor room accessed by stairs unless an alternative is pre-arranged with staff.
