For the foreseeable future, YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only. If you are interested in staying before 25th March 2021 for a purpose which you believe is within current government regulations, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Bookings after 26th March 2021 can be made online as normal.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of the current government guidance on gatherings in self-catering accommodation. In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.

Get away from it all and get back to basics in this camping barn. YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn is in a remote wooded valley and is surrounded by fells, ridges, and peaks – perfect for a rural retreat.
What is great about YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn?
A stone’s throw from Ennerdale Water; home to England’s only migratory population of Arctic char. A walk around the lake is a gorgeous way to spend an afternoon.
Ennerdale valley has some spectacular upland walks and some equally lovely low-level routes to explore.
A delightful little slice of off-grid heaven; hidden away in a forest surrounded by mighty Lakeland giants such as Pillar and Steeple.
YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn has a small self-catering kitchen, equipped with one domestic gas cooker with four rings, one oven with an integrated grill, one small fridges with freezer compartment, and a range of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use during their stay. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The camping barn Is equipped with a quirky, cosy lounge and dining area, with a farmhouse table and a variety of seating for guests to relax in. Highchairs are also available.

YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn includes 13 beds:
One three-bedded room. Includes 1 double bed and 1 single bed. With shared bathroom facilities.
One six-bedded room. Includes 6 single beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
One four-bedded room. Includes 4 single beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There is 1 shower and 1 toilet for guests to use during their stay. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Ennerdale is a wonderful playground for upland walks and low-level routes alike.
Two wheeled enthusiasts can find some excellent riding around the forest tracks and for the more adventurous cyclists, you will find some amazing mountain bike routes.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
Ennerdale is the perfect location to get away from the stresses of modern-day life.
Situated in the Lake District National Park, there are endless walking and cycling opportunities in the surrounding area, suited to all tastes and interests. The views are pretty spectacular too! Ennerdale is home to some of England’s most lively natural environments and one of the longest running wild land restoration projects in the UK, which makes a great day out for the family. The area is also great for orienteering and horse riding, with many remote picnic areas to enjoy on a summer’s day.

Parking for a maximum of 3 cars is available right outside the camping barn.
On the A66 from Keswick, turn off at Cockermouth onto the A5086. Turn left at Lamplugh, passing Lamplugh church, then left passing Inglenook Caravan Park. Continue to the T junction in the hamlet of Croasdale. Turn left here into Croasdale and follow the road to Bowness Knott car park. Drive along the forest track for 2 miles to reach the hostel.
Access to YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn includes a final three-mile section along a gravel forest road which can have potholes. Please keep to the forest speed limit of 15mph and take care when driving over or around potholes.
Vehicles are restricted beyond Bowness Knott car park and vehicle access is for authorised users only, including YHA staff and visiting customers. To protect the tranquility of Ennerdale, please try to share vehicles where possible.
YHA Ennerdale Camping Barn welcomes up to 4 dogs! Your four-legged friends allowed in the communal bar area. Please let the hostel know to how many will be staying upon booking. Your furry friends must be kept on a lead in the grounds. There are cows and sheep aplenty around the valley and it is advisable to be mindful of this.
