In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant Government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.
The duty of care we have to our guests, beneficiaries, staff and partners compels us to progress and open our hostels with caution and careful consideration in the best interests of the charity and those it serves.
For the foreseeable future, YHA Ennerdale will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only, with contact-free check in.

If you want to get away from it all and catch a true taste of the Lake District, then YHA Ennerdale really is the hostel for you. Situated in a remote wooded valley and surrounded by fells, ridges and famous peaks, these converted forestry cottages make for a cosy rural retreat.
What is great about YHA Ennerdale?
Ennerdale valley has some spectacular upland walks and some equally lovely low-level routes to explore.

The self-catering kitchen contains two domestic sized cookers, a large fridge-freezer and a range of kitchen utensil, crockery, and cutlery for 24 people. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The combined dining room and lounge area has beautiful views across the surrounding fells with seating 24 on a variety of tables and chairs. There is also a log burner in the lounge area where guests can get cosy after a day’s exploring. Highchairs are also available.
There is a large garden surrounding the property which is perfect for the little ones to let off some steam.

YHA Ennerdale includes 20 beds:
- Two 4 bedded rooms includes two sets of bunk beds with washbasins.
- Two 6 bedded rooms includes three sets of bunk beds with washbasins.
Please be aware that there are no electric sockets in the bedrooms.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are four showers, two toilets and seven washbasins. Please bring your own towels. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Ennerdale is a wonderful playground for upland walks and low-level routes alike.
Two wheeled enthusiasts can find some excellent riding around the forest tracks and for the more adventurous cyclists, you will find some amazing mountain bike routes.
Visit the Wild Ennerdale Valley project to experience a sense of wildness, increasingly rare in this busy urban world we live in.
Need to know
Ennerdale is the perfect location to get away from the stresses of modern-day life.
Situated in the Lake District National Park, there are endless rambling and cycling opportunities in the surrounding area, suited to all tastes and interests. The views are pretty spectacular too! Ennerdale is home to some of England’s most lively natural environments and one of the longest running wild land restoration projects in the UK, which makes a great day out for the family. The area is also great for orienteering and horse riding, with many remote picnic areas to enjoy on a summer’s day.

There is parking for six cars in the grounds. Approach along a forest track, which can be very bumpy. Please take care.
On the A66 from Keswick, turn off at Cockermouth onto the A5086. Turn left at Lamplugh, passing Lamplugh church, then left passing Inglenook Caravan Park. Continue to the T junction in the hamlet of Croasdale. Turn left here into Croasdale, and follow the road to Bowness Knott car park. Drive along the forest track for 2 miles to reach the hostel.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
