In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. This purpose-built granite building offers comfortable accommodation in the Eskdale Valley. Nestling among the fells, it is a good base for those seeking to explore the rugged western summits or the more tranquil west Lakeland fells. Set in 15 acres of grounds, YHA Eskdale offers peace and solitude in beautiful, wildlife-rich surroundings.
What is great about YHA Eskdale?
Extensive grounds with a garden, nature trail, pond, and wildlife areas, with the backdrop of Eskdale valley’s beautiful woodlands and mountains.
Situated in an idyllic location with a sense of rural isolation but within easy walking distance of numerous pubs.
Great choice of activities accessible from the hostel doorstep.
The self-catering kitchen contains eight gas rings, two ovens, a microwave, a dishwasher, two fridges, two kettles, two toasters, and a range of crockery, cutlery, and utensils for guests to use. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The dining room seats 26 people at tables and chairs. The cosy lounge is located on the first floor and has soft seating for 18 guests. The lounge has magnificent views and a wood-burning stove, perfect for winding down after a day’s exploring. Highchairs are also available.
The dining room seats 35 people and doubles as a spacious lounge with log fire, with excellent views of the surrounding area. There is a second, smaller lounge for guests to use.

YHA Eskdale includes 35 beds:
One four-bedded room. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One six-bedded room. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One seven-bedded room. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds and 1 single bed. With shared bathroom facilities.
One two-bedded room. Includes 1 set of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Four five-bedded rooms. Includes 1 double bed with single bunk over and 1 set of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 6 showers and 5 toilets close to the bedrooms. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
West Lakes Adventure are located 10-minute walk away and offer a range of outdoor activities.
Great walking opportunities close by, including Scarfell Pike.
Hardknott Roman Fort is one of the most spectacularly situated roman ruins in England and is a couple of miles away on Hardknott pass.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
Eskdale is a stunning Lake District valley made up of mountains, rivers, and forests with England’s highest mountain – Scafell Pike at its head.
Eskdale is a walker’s paradise with paths that are advanced and gentle, and plenty in between. Eskdale cycle trail makes exploring easy if cycling is your interest. One of the Lake District’s most popular tourist attractions, the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, runs through the valley making Eskdale very popular with tourists. Whether it is a family holiday or a trip away with friends, Eskdale is the place for you.
There is car parking is beside the hostel with spaces for 15 cars. There is no coach parking on site.
YHA Eskdale can be reached from Ambleside via two steep and winding passes which is difficult for larger vehicles and can be tricky in adverse weather conditions.
The easier route is from the west coast road leaving the A595 at the turning 100m south of Holmrook petrol station signposted Eskdale. Continue to next T-junction. Turn right and continue over wooded hill and through Eskdale Green village. Turn left at the George Inn and continue until you reach the Woolpack Inn. YHA Eskdale is a short distance further on the left set back in its own grounds.
YHA Eskdale welcomes up to 4 dogs! Add a dog to your booking at check out and bring your four-legged friend along with you.
At YHA Eskdale we strive to cater for everybody. Unfortunately, none of our bedrooms or bathrooms is accessible to modern standards.
