Adhering to Government guidance

In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant Government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.
The duty of care we have to our guests, beneficiaries, staff and partners compels us to progress and open our hostels with caution and careful consideration in the best interests of the charity and those it serves.
For the foreseeable future, YHA Hawkshead Main Building will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only, with contact-free check in.

There is a total of 72 beds made up of 4 x 8, 4 x 6 and 4 x 4 bedrooms. All bed linen is provided but don’t forget to bring your own towels! There are shared toilets and showers and three of the rooms have their own en-suite shower. There is central heating throughout.
The dining room is split into two separate rooms and can comfortably seat up to 60 people. The kitchen facilities include one large electric over, one large gas over with six hobs, microwave, toaster, water boiler, fridges, freezer and a good range of kitchen utensils, baking trays, crockery and cutlery suitable for up to 100 people. Tea towels, cloths, black bin bags, recycling bags and washing up liquid are all provided.
A lounge at the front of the Youth Hostel provides comfy seating for around 20 people and this can be opened up to join one of the dining rooms to create a larger, open plan social space.
There is also a games room that can seat up to 15 people with a TV, juke box, quiz machine and a pool table. Wif-Fi is available at this property which is free of charge for guests to use.
There are extensive grounds at YHA Hawkshead, including a veranda and a large lawn at the front and woodland towards the back, so you can spend plenty of time exploring outside!
There are three car parks at YHA Hawkshead and enough space to park up to 40 cars.
From the M6 J36: Take the A590 towards Barrow in Furness. At Newby Bridge, go straight on at the roundabout then take next right following signs to Lakeside and Hawkshead.
From Hawkshead village: Turn right out of the village following signs for Newby Bridge. YHA Hawkshead is 1 mile out of the village.
In the area
Nearby Grizedale Forest offers fantastic routes for mountain biking and hiking and there is also easy access to the southern fells and Lake Windermere.
