Located on the shores of picturesque Derwentwater, at the head of the magnificent Borrowdale Valley, this is a traditionally built, stone cottage in the grounds of Hawse End Centre. The cottage is situated at the foot of Catbell’s which Alfred Wainwright described as one of his favourites which, “while modest in height, offers splendid views”.
The nearby famous Lake District Town of Keswick can be accessed via a short cruise on Dewentwater, and the launch stop is conveniently close to the cottage. For those more active there is a Lakeside walk around Derwentwater which also takes in Keswick.
This is a truly stunning location, with Derwentwater only metres from the cottage door.
There is a self-catering kitchen area with domestic sized oven, hob, fridge, microwave, pots, pans, crockery & cutlery for 24 people.
There are 24 beds: 4 x 4, 1 x 6 and 1 x 2 bed rooms. Rooms have adult size bunk-beds, and all bed-linen is provided.
There is parking in the grounds for eight cars.
From Penrith and the M6 Take Exit 40 and follow A66 follow road signposted for Portinscale, just west of Keswick junction. Follow the road through Portinscale continuing for approx. 3 miles following signs for Hawse End Centre. Pass the Derwentwater Marina and go straight on past two right hand signposts to Ullock and Stair. The turning to the centre is on the left directly opposite the Swinside Lodge Hotel. Follow this drive along to Hawse End Centre, the Cottage is further along the road.
There is a kitchen/diner with folding chairs and tables seating up to 16 and a separate living room, a patio with picnic tables, barbeque and views of the lake. The hostel is centrally heated.
