The self-catering kitchen contains two cookers, two microwaves, two fridges, one freezer, one toaster, two kettles and a range of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use during their stay. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The open plan dining room seats 40 people comfortably. The lounge area is equipped with soft furnishings and is the place where you can relax after a day’s exploring. The conservatory is equally appealing whether on a warm summer’s evening, or in the depths of winter when the wood burning stove is lit. There is a TV area is located near the spacious dining room. Highchairs are also available.

YHA Helmsley includes 40 beds:
Four six-bedded rooms. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Two four-bedded rooms. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One three-bedded room with accessible en-suite. Includes 1 set of bunk beds and 1 single bed.
One five-bedded room en-suite. Includes 1 bunk bed and one single bed over a double.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 4 showers and 4 toilets throughout the hostel for guests to use. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Helmsley is a perfect destination for those who love the great outdoors, with plenty of walking and cycling opportunities nearby.
Nearby family attractions include Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle and the Birds of Prey centre.
With Dalby and Cropton Forest only s short drive away, it’s an ideal location to enjoy a beautiful peaceful walk or hire bikes to take a ride on the many paths around the forest.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
There is plenty of things to see and do in Helmsley. It features a lively market square, delightful tea rooms and pubs, spectacular castle ruins waiting to be explored and surrounded by the wonderful North York Moors National Park. There are many cycling and walking routes nearby, suitable for all ages and abilities, including the Cleveland Way. It is no wonder that Helmsley has thousands of visitors year after year.
There is parking for 9 cars on the grass covered car park on site. With further street parking on the roadside outside the hostel front gate. The post code for the property is YO62 5HB.
By car: the hostel is 1/4 mile east of Helmsley marketplace, at the junction of Carlton Road and Carlton Lane (just off A170).
By train: the nearest rail station is Thirsk which is 16 miles away. From here there are no direct bus services, only taxis.
By bus: it is best to come via either York (Service 31X direct) or Malton (Coastliner Service to Pickering and then Service 128 to Helmsley). The nearest bus stop is within 160 metres of the hostel. There is a bus service which usually runs accessible buses to this stop.
