Need to know
Kettlewell is a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village. There is a great range of walks right from the front door. The longer walks take you up Great Whernside (Kettlewell’s own mountain!) and Buckden Pike. Alternatively, you can walk over to Arncliffe, home of the original pub in Emmerdale Farm or walk up the dale to the next village along Starbotton along a route that is locally known as The Paradise Walk.
There is a lovely children’s playground just 3 minutes’ walk from the hostel with a football pitch for the little ones to enjoy. There is also a pretty village church with interesting stained-glass windows and a labyrinth in the churchyard.
Despite being a lovely, small Dales village with under 200 residents, there are three great pubs in the village. Both the Bluebell and Racehorses have capacity to cater for groups, if you would prefer to eat out whilst you are here it would be a good idea to book a table well ahead of time and it might be necessary to pre-order your meals. The King’s Head can only seat about 20, it is slightly more upmarket and is very nice for a treat.
There are 4 car parking spaces along the front of the hostel and 4 cars can park up the side of the hostel. Once these are full, there is a £3 carpark just 3 minutes’ walk from the hostel that we recommend you use, once you have dropped your bags off at the hostel. The £3 carpark is just opposite the petrol station on the way into the village from Skipton (you can pay at the hostel before you leave or there is a box for coins). We value our neighbours goodwill highly and ask respectfully for guests not to park their cars in front of their houses, please.
The nearest main town with bus and rail links is Skipton, which is a 30-minute drive down the B6160, Grassington is 7 miles away. Kettlewell can also be reached using the local community bus service from Skipton – the No.72 which runs about 5 times a day.
