For the foreseeable future, YHA Langdale will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only, with contact-free check in.

Owned by the National Trust, YHA Langdale is a rambling, Victorian mansion set in extensive grounds, close to the Langdale Pikes. High on Redbank between Elterwater and Grasmere, this is a superb location for exploring the popular Langdale Valley. One of our larger properties, it is great for parties and celebrations!
What is great about YHA Langdale?

Grasmere Lake and Loughrigg Fell are a 10 minutes’ walk from our doorstep.
Located in the Lake District National Park.
The self-catering kitchen is equipped with three electric cookers, two catering sized fridges, a microwave and all the essential cooking items required for both large group catering and individual catering. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
There are two dining rooms adjacent to each other with various tables and chairs both of which seat forty people comfortably but could be increased if required. Highchairs are also available.
Drawing Room/Great Hall:
There are two main social spaces adjacent to each other at the front of the building which contain sofas and tables. The Great Hall has a log burner for which fuel can be purchased from the hostel in advance of the booking.

One four-bedded room with en-suite. Includes 1 double bed and 1 set of bunk beds.
Four eight-bedded rooms. Includes 4 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
Two six-bedded rooms. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
Four six-bedded rooms. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One four-bedded room. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One fourteen-bedded room. Includes 7 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
One twelve-bedded room. Includes 6 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
One four-bedded room. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 9 showers and 11 toilets within the hostel for guests to use. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Get out and about on your bike and enjoy the landscape. Wherever you want to explore, you can ride as far as your legs will allow you.
Visit Dove Cottage- the home of famous Romantic poet William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy.
Take a dip and go wild swimming in the many of lakes nearby Grasmere and Rydal Water.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
The breath-taking area of Langdale runs west of Ambleside up to the Langdale Pikes. Langdale is split into two valleys, Great Langdale and Little Langdale. It includes the lovely village of Elterwater with its pub and a variety of craft shops dotted around, as well as the Chapel Stile and the pretty views of the surrounding area. There are countless walking routes, both low and high level, suitable for all ages and abilities.
YHA Langdale makes the perfect base for an adventure in the Lake District.
Parking is located at the front of the building and is suitable for a maximum of 30 cars only. Access for emergency vehicles must be maintained to the front of the building.
By car: Following the A66 to Keswick then down the A591 to Grasmere then Ambleside. Alternatively driving from the south leave the M6 at junction 36 onto the A590 (towards Kendal) then follow the A591 all the way to Ambleside. From Ambleside follow the A593 signposted Coniston and the Langdales. After about one and a half miles take the steep right hand turning signposted High Close (with YHA OS symbol). Continue along the road following High Close or YHA signs for approximately two miles until a left-hand switchback (third turning on the left) takes you to the hostel, 200 yards on the left.
By bus: If you are travelling by bus from Windermere take either the X8 (Chorley-Keswick) or the 505 (Windermere-Coniston) to Ambleside. Alternatively, you could take the 555 (Lancaster-Keswick) to Ambleside or Grasmere. From Ambleside take the 516 (Ambleside-Dungeon Ghyll) and alight at Elterwater. From Elterwater there is a one mile walk to the hostel up a steep hill. From Grasmere there is a two mile walk either through a forest trail or around Grasmere Lake. If you are travelling from Keswick take either the X8 (Keswick-Chorley) or the 555 (Keswick-Lancaster) to Grasmere or Ambleside, then follow above directions from Ambleside.
By coach: The nearest National Express coach stop is in Grasmere, 1.01 miles away. Book your coach tickets here.
By train: If you are travelling by train the nearest station is Windermere, from there we are either an eight-mile bus or taxi ride away.
YHA Langdale welcomes up to four dogs! Add a dog to your booking at check out and bring your four-legged friend along with you.
