Please be aware that when staying on Exclusive Hire at YHA Ninebanks, you may be sharing the site with other guests who will be staying in the camping and cabins facilities. These guests are situated in a separate area of the grounds with access to their own facilities during their stay, and will have no access to any part of the hostel building.
This 300-year-old, stone-built lead miner’s cottage, furnished in traditional style, has been refurbished and extended to provide an outstanding level of comfort and innovative environmental practices. Ninebanks achieved a gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
It provides the perfect base to explore the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the iconic Hadrian’s Wall, as well as being a great walking and cycling area. Explore the moorlands, tackle part of the C2C route or simply relax in this quiet part of Northern England.

The self-catering kitchen contains two large domestic sized ovens, eight gas burners, one microwave, two grills, one fridge and freezer, one toaster, and a range of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery, also children’s crockery and highchair. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The lounge is a lovely relaxing space with stone floors, log burners and beams, overlooking the valley. There is no TV reception, but we do have an extensive range of books and games to keep you entertained during your stay. Logs for the log burner are provided so you can relax and get cosy. The dining room is a large airy room big enough to seat 30 people or with tables pushed to one side is a great party venue. French doors open onto a patio with picnic tables and BBQs, which can be used in the warmer months.

YHA Ninebanks has 28 beds arranged in 2×3 (double bed with single over) 2×4, 1×8 all en-suite and 1×6 with private shower room.
All bedlinen is provided.
All rooms have private or en-suite shower rooms. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
The Allen Valleys provide unique landscapes with great cycling routes. Make sure to take in the beautiful scenery.
The circular Isaacs Tea Trail route starts and finishes at YHA Ninebanks. You will discover magical valleys and wild moors with breath-taking views across Northumberland and Cumbria on this 36-mile route.
Enjoy peace, tranquility, and natural planting at the Garden Station railway track. Make sure to try the traditional English afternoon tea whilst you’re there.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
There is roadside parking for 5 cars and a minibus, with charging points for electric vehicles.
The hostel is signposted from the A686, 2 1/2 miles south of Whitfield.
YHA Ninebanks welcomes dogs! Add a dog to your booking at check out and bring your four-legged friends along with you. We recommend a maximum of 2 dogs per booking at Ninebanks.
