For the foreseeable future, YHA Tanners Hatch Surrey Hills will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only. If you are interested in staying before 25th March 2021 for a purpose which you believe is within current government regulations, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Bookings after 26th March 2021 can be made online as normal.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of the current government guidance on gatherings in self-catering accommodation. In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.

YHA Tanners Hatch Surrey Hills is a world away from the stresses of modern life. This rural retreat is accessible only on foot and surrounded by National Trust woodland, phone reception is rare and there is no WiFi or TV. While you are on digital detox, spend idyllic hours wandering the fields and footpaths around the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and nearby National Trust Polesden Lacey estate.

The self-catering kitchen contains a domestic cooker with oven, four burner hobs, two small ovens, a microwave, and plenty of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use during their stay. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The dining room is equipped with ample tables and chairs for guests to use, as well as a log burner. The cosy lounge area is low beamed, with comfy sofas and armchairs for guests to relax in. The lounge also has an open fire, perfect for the winter months. Highchairs are also available.
The hostel boasts large grounds, surrounded by woodland. There are 2 areas for bonfires/barbeques – please bring your own barbeques/wood.

YHA Tanners Hatch Surrey Hills includes 15 beds:
One two-bedded room. Includes 1 double bed. With shared bathroom facilities.
One seven-bedded room. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds and 1 single bed. With shared bathroom facilities.
One six-bedded room. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 3 showers and 2 toilets located outside of the building. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
YHA Tanners Hatch Surrey Hills sits in the heart of the North Downs Way – a long distance footpath which runs through Surrey and down to Dover. Perfect for all ages and abilities.
Polesden Lacey is a National Trust house, with beautiful interiors, charming gardens and superb views across the rolling Surrey hills is waiting to be explored.
Bocketts Farm is a working farm in the wonderful Surrey countryside, with a play barn, baby animals, and tractor rides. The perfect day out for the little ones to enjoy.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
Engulfed by the stunning Surrey Hills, there is plenty to see and do in Dorking.
Wander round the town and discover the independent arts and crafts shops, art galleries, and jewellers, dotted around the area. Or relax in any of the quirky cafes, restaurants and pubs and grab a bite to eat.
If walking and cycling are your thing, explore the surrounding fells and trails in the North Downs Way- make sure to capture the pretty views in your memory! Or take the little ones to a working-class farm and get up close with the baby farm animals. The possibilities are endless in Dorking.
The closest car park is the National Trust car park which is £6.00 per calendar day. The car park is ¾ mile away through woods. The hostel is only accessible by foot. 1 Blue badge vehicle can park at the hostel but must be left there for the duration of the stay. Exclusive Hire groups may be able to bring one vehicle on one trip to the hostel to unload (this is by arrangement – please contact the hostel directly). It is a rough, muddy track – please ensure your vehicle is suitable. Do not forget to bring torches. If you are using a Sat Nav to get to the hostel, please use postcode RH5 6SR.
By Foot: If you’re walking from Box Hill and Westhumble train station, we recommend you have a map for this route: Turn left out of station and follow the road to Badgen Farm, take the track on the left indicated by a YHA sign. Pass the farmhouse on your right-hand side and take the first right along a bridleway by the side of a barn. Walk straight across the field to the gate on the other side and turn left onto the track. The hostel is approx 400 metres up on the right-hand side.
By car: From the A24 in Dorking, take the A2003 Ashcombe Road and turn right at the T-junction towards Ranmore and Effingham. At the top of the hill is Denbies Hillside National Trust car park – the nearest car park to the hostel – free to National Trust members. From the car park cross over the road and turn left, walk along to Four Fox Cottages (on your right) and go through the gate by its side. Take the central track indicated by the YHA signs, the hostel is approx 15 minutes’ walk through the wood.
