YHA Wasdale Hall, formerly known as YHA Wastwater, is a stunning half-timbered National Trust-owned house dating from 1829 and still retains many original features. Enjoy beautiful scenery from the grounds, which extend to the shores of Lake Wastwater, England’s deepest lake. Within easy reach of England’s highest mountain, walkers will be busy here.

Breath-taking scenery which has earned the title of “Britain’s Favourite View”.
The self-catering kitchen has stunning views over Wastwater. It contains two domestic gas cookers; each with four rings, one oven, two fridges- one with a small freezer, one microwave, two electric kettles and one toaster, with a range of kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use during their stay. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
The spacious dining room features a grand fireplace, panelled walls, and 6 tables and 30 chairs. The cosy lounge area is furnished with ample seating and an open fire, so please bring along your own coal and logs. There are also fantastic views of the nearby fells and lake. There is also an indoor games room with a pool table, table football and table tennis. Highchairs are also available.
Due to our remote location and the local infrastructure, we do not have a TV signal and mobile phone reception is very patchy, so YHA Wasdale Hall is the perfect location for a digital detox.

YHA Wasdale Hall includes 39 beds:
One six-bedded room. Includes 6 single beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Two five-bedded rooms. Includes 1 double bed and 3 single beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Four four-bedded rooms. Includes 4 single beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One eight-bedded room. Includes 8 single beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 6 showers and 6 toilets close to the bedrooms. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
There are endless walking opportunities for all abilities right on the hostel’s doorstep. From the shores of Wast Water and the nearby Whin Rigg and Nether Wasdale Common to the challenging Pillar, Great Gable and Scarfell Pike, England’s highest mountain.
The hostel grounds run down to the pretty lakeshore. Wild swimming, canoeing, and kayaking are available on the lake, a stone’s throw from YHA Wasdale Hall.
Muncaster Castle is an historic haunted castle, with 70 acres of spectacular gardens, set against the backdrop of the nearby fells, just waiting to be explored.

Check-in and Check-out times
On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
YHA Wasdale Hall is located in Seascale. The village is a quaint seaside resort, with many things to see and do.
Take a walk on the Victorian jetty, visit the Grey Croft Stone Circle landmark, spend a day at St Bees’ beach and enjoy a paddle and the stunning views, or explore the rolling fells and mountains that the Lake District National Park has to offer.
There are many cafes, restaurants and tearooms dotted around the area, for you to grab a bite to eat and relax. Whatever you choose to do during your time in Seascale, you certainly will not be disappointed. Make YHA Wasdale Hall your chosen holiday location today.
Parking is located at the front of the hostel and with space for 14 cars or 6 minibuses.
Join the A595 and follow until Gosforth, go through Gosforth, and follow the road for approximately 3 miles; look out for a brown food and accommodation sign to the right. Follow this to Nether Wasdale, go through the village and left over the humpbacked bridge. Follow the lane for a further 1.5 miles. Look out for the YHA sign on the right, go down the track and over the cattle grid down to the hostel.
