Accommodation

Situated on the outskirts of the market town of Wooler in the foothills of the Cheviots and on the edge of Northumberland National Park, YHA Wooler and Shepherd’s Huts is an ideal base for walking, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, bouldering and exploring the delights of Northumberland and the Borders.

It is part of the Walkers and Cyclists Welcome Scheme. There is plenty of walking available, long distance along St Cuthbert’s Way to Lindisfarne or closer to home in the Cheviot hills.

What is great about YHA Wooler?

Situated on the edge of Northumberland National Park, and 11 miles from the stunning Northumberland coastline.

Situated on the edge of town, set in picturesque grounds, including a private courtyard.

The whole building is on one level so provided great disabled access.

Self-catering kitchen

There is a large self-catering kitchen which includes two gas cookers, two large fridges, one microwave, one kettle, three sinks, and enough crockery, utensils to cater for over 50 people. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.

Dining room and lounge

There is a large common room and dining room combined which can sit 50 people, with a mixture of table and chairs and soft furnishings for guests to use.

The hostel boasts a large garden, which is ideal for the little ones to play games, especially in the warmer months. Highchairs are also available.

One eight-bedded room. Includes 4 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.

Four four-bedded rooms. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.

Two four-bedded rooms with en-suite. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds.

One six-bedded room with en-suite. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds.

One two-bedded room with en-suite. Includes 1 set of bunk beds.

Two two-bedded rooms. Includes 1 set of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.

Shepherds Huts

Three two-bedded Shepherds Huts. Includes 1 set of bunk beds. With shared bathroom facilities.

One three-bedded Shepherds Hut. Includes 1 double bed and a single bunk over. With shared bathroom facilities.

All bedlinen is provided.

Bathrooms

There are 6 showers, 4 toilets and 2 disabled access toilets as well as the en-suite rooms for guests to use. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.

Activities

St Cuthbert’s Way is a 62-mile-long distance walking and cycling trail between Melrose in the Scottish Borders and Lindisfarne of the coast of Northumberland in England.

The Sandstone Way is a new 120-mile mountain biking route between Berwick upon Tweed and Hexham in Northumberland. It links, and is named after, the numerous sandstone features, crags and outcrops which are characteristic of the region. The route traverses through an amazing ever-changing landscape which is rich in history, geological features, and iconic scenery.

Discover Alnwick Castle in Alnwick, England. This iconic 1000-year-old medieval castle is a favourite of the film industry, most notably as the location for Harry Potters Hogwarts.

Location

The area is rich in points of interest, including the Ford and Etal Estate, the bird sanctuary on the Farne Islands, historic castles such as Alnwick, Bamburgh and Etal, along with miles of sandy coastline. And do not miss Cragside – a fascinating house full of Victorian inventions – or the spooky torture chambers of Chillingham Castle.

Parking

Parking is located at the front of the hostel and has space for 10 cars. There is 1 disabled bay. There is some on street parking on the residential street at the entrance to the hostel.

Directions

Leave the A1 and join the A697 to Wooler. The hostel is located on Cheviot Street past The Anchor pub.

Dogs

YHA Wooler welcomes dogs in the Shepherds Huts! Add a dog to your booking at check out and bring your four-legged friend along with you.
