YHA Youlgreave is one of the gateway hostels to the Peak District National Park, and is ideally located to reach a number of the major destinations and activities the Peaks have to offer. Situated in the picturesque village of Youlgreave, once the centre of the lead-mining industry, the hostel is located in the old Victorian Co-op building and is just a short 10 minute drive from the historic town of Bakewell. Its beautiful surrounding countryside and proximity to Lathkill Dale attract visitors by the thousands, which the village’s three excellent pubs are well suited to cater for. Three long-distance trails pass through the village; the Alternative Pennine Way, the Limestone Way and the White Peak Way, as well as the Tissington, Monsall and High Peak trails which are close by for walkers and cyclists. The most popular attractions nearby include the nationally renowned Chatsworth Estate less than a 30 minute drive away. Also worth a visit are Haddon Hall, one of England’s finest examples of a medieval manor house, which is just a short walk away from the hostel, and Matlock Bath where you can take a cable car up to the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver’s Kingdom. Above all, YHA Youlgreave is a peaceful, charming place to come and relax in unspoilt scenery. We can boast a newly renovated self-catering kitchen, breath-taking views of rolling countryside and a sun-drenched front terrace, as well as a large yet cosy communal room with television for the colder winter evenings.
We have a self-catering kitchen which contains two hobs, two ovens, a grill, one microwave oven, two fridge freezers and one fridge. A range of kitchen utensils, cookware, crockery and cutlery is provided for 40 people. Tea towels, washing up liquid and kitchen roll are also provided.
There are 42 beds spread over 9 rooms: 1 x 2 beds, 5 x 4 beds, 2 x 6 beds and 1 x 8 beds. All bedding is provided.
We only have one parking space at the hostel, which can be found in front of the basement windows at the front of the building. Other cars should be parked at Moor Lane Car Park at the western end of the village (about five minutes’ walk from the hostel). Please note that parking is not permitted down the driveway to the right of the hostel (neighbours’ access to property), nor on any white line (designated pavement) in the village.
The hostel is in the centre of Youlgreave village, on the main street opposite the Fountain Well.
A large lounge area is available with seating for everyone on comfy leather sofas and wooden chairs. The lounge has a television and stereo to relax with.
Each bedroom has a sink and mirror. There are 7 toilets and 5 showers in individual washrooms. There’s also a combined boot room and drying room. Please bring your own towels and toiletries.
There’s a front garden with picnic tables so (weather being well) you can enjoy the countryside views. Please note – we’re only available for early check in.
