Adhering to government guidance
For the foreseeable future, YHA Youlgreave will operate on an Exclusive Hire basis only. If you are interested in staying before 25th March 2021 for a purpose which you believe is within current government regulations, please contact us to discuss your requirements. Bookings after 26th March 2021 can be made online as normal.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of the current government guidance on gatherings in self-catering accommodation. In making a booking with YHA (England & Wales) you are agreeing to adhere to the relevant government guidance that will apply at the time of your stay. Please bear in mind that the guidance may be different in England and Wales.

YHA Youlgreave is one of the gateway hostels to the Peak District National Park and is ideally located to reach several the major destinations and activities the Peaks have to offer. Situated in the picturesque village of Youlgreave, once the centre of the lead-mining industry, the hostel is in the old Victorian Co-op building and is just a short 10-minute drive from the historic town of Bakewell.

A great base for exploring the heart of the peak district with Bakewell, Matlock Bath and Chatsworth all a short drive away.
The limestone way passes through the quaint village.
The well-equipped self-catering kitchen contains two hobs, two ovens, one grill, one microwave oven, two fridge/freezers, and a range of kitchen utensils, cookware, crockery, and cutlery for guests to use during their stay. Tea towels, bin bags, washing up liquid and soap are provided.
Dining room and lounge
There is a large TV lounge area is furnished with comfy leather sofas and wooden chairs for guests to relax in. The spacious dining room has plenty of seating at tables for up to 40 people, with breath-taking views of the rolling countryside. Highchairs are also available.
There is also an sun-drenched terrace with picnic benches which guests can use, especially in the warmer months.

YHA Youlgreave includes 42 beds:
One eight-bedded room. Includes 4 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Five four-bedded rooms. Includes 2 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
One two-bedded room. Includes 1 set of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
Two six-bedded rooms. Includes 3 sets of bunk beds. With sink and shared bathroom facilities.
All bedlinen is provided.
There are 5 showers and 6 toilets close to the bedrooms for guests to use. Soap is available with every sink. Toilet paper is also provided.
Tissington Trail winds its way through the stunning countryside. Take the opportunity to visit historic Tissington village with its stately home, duck-pond, and tearooms.
Visit Carstington Water and explore the trails through spectacular scenery. It offers a fun-filled family day out, with a children’s play area, visitor centre, water sport centre and an 8-mile trail round the reservoir.
Discover the National Stone Centre, packed with prehistoric tropical reefs, rocks and minerals, centuries of industrial history and ample wildlife.

On the day of arrival, the Hostel is available from 4.00pm. On the day of departure you are asked to vacate by 10am.
The village of Youlgreave is surrounded by beautiful countryside, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. Three long-distance trails pass through the village; the Alternative Pennine Way, the Limestone Way, and the White Peak Way, as well as the Tissington, Monsall and High Peak trails which are close by for walkers and cyclists. The village enjoys good facilities with shops, a café and three pubs.
The most popular attraction nearby is the Chatsworth Estate less than a 30-minute drive away. Also, worth a visit is the town of Matlock Bath, where you can take a cable car up to the Heights of Abraham and overlook the quaint town.

There is one parking space at the hostel, which can be found in front of the basement windows at the front of the building. You may wish to use this space to load/unload and then park at the car park at the western end of the village near the allotments – about 5 minutes’ walk from the hostel. You may park on the street but not on any white lines in the village (designated pavements). Please note that parking is not permitted down the driveway to the right of the hostel, or to the rear of the hostel (residential buildings access and parking only).
Please be aware that the village name is spelled both ‘Youlgreave’ and ‘Youlgrave’ on a variety signs and maps – it is the same place!
From the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton Road, turn off at Newhaven, then turn immediately left and follow the signs to Youlgreave. From the A6, look for the Youlgreave turn off between Bakewell and Rowsley. Follow that road through Alport into Youlgreave. The hostel can be found in the centre of the village near the Bull’s Head Pub, opposite the old stone water tank engraved with 1829.
